A bet, Un pari

I bought this old couch! I'm so excited!  I have a vision for it and I sure hope I won't be disappointed (reupholstering can be very expensive)  Our old Ikea (12 years) is sagging and doesn't have enough sitting room.  My boyfriend would of love a sectional, but our living room is so small. Before deciding to purchase this couch, we went in furniture stores just to see what was available and the prices. We didn't find anything we both liked. To big (a lot of them are huge!), to small, to modern, to country, to expensive, etc... So this old couch with a new look should be a winner.

J'ai acheté ce vieux canapé! Je suis tellement excitée! J'ai en tête une idée de ce qu'il pourrait devenir.  J'espère juste que je ne serai pas déçue (le recouvrement peu coûté tellement cher). Notre vieux Ikea (12 ans) est affaissé et n'offre pas assez de places assises. Mon chum aurait préféré un canapé modulaire, mais notre salon est trop petit. Avant d'acheter ce "nouveau" canapé, nous sommes aller jeter un coup d'oeil dans les magasins de meubles pour voir ce qui était offert et à quel prix.  Nous n'avons rien trouvé qui plaisait au deux. Trop gros (plusieurs sont énormes!), trop petit, trop moderne, trop campagnard, trop cher, etc... Alors ce vieux canapé avec son new look devrait être gagnant.

The make-over of our steel front door is finally done!

Le make-over de notre porte avant en acier est enfin terminé!

When we bought the house 10 years ago, it was like this. Last year, I changed that ugly window for something more simple and personal (blogged here). Now I wanted to change the color.

La porte était comme ça, lorsque nous avons acheté la maison, il y a dix ans. L'an passé, j'ai changé la fenêtre pour quelque chose de plus simple et personnelle (expliqué ici). Maintenant il me restait à changer la couleur.

I washed,I taped everything (to lazy to take of the hardware...), I put a coat of a good primer and three coats of exterior paint (Benjamin Moore's Blue Note) on everything.  I choose to use latex primer and paint.  I hate oil paint, to smelly, to long, to messy. 

J'ai bien lavé, mis du ruban partout (trop paresseuse pour retirer la quincaillerie), j'ai mis une couche d'un bon apprêt et trois couches de peinture extérieure (Nuit des temps de Benjamin Moore). J'ai choisi un apprêt et une peinture au latex.  Je déteste l'huile : ça sent mauvais, c'est trop long et trop salissant, 

 While I was researching this project I found a guy un Youtube who suggest to give the door a "wood look" by painting with a brush and doing the strokes in the direction of where the "grain" would be.


Lors de mes recherches pour réaliser ce projet, j'ai découvert un gars sur Youtube qui suggère de donner un aspect bois à une porte d'acier en peignant avec un pinceau et de suivre la direction d'un grain imaginaire.

Here is the result! 

I thought the color would be much darker (note : don't be afraid to go darker outside). Anyway, I'm really happy it's finish and for less than $100. I bought a new door map that goes perfectly with the orange chair (that I brought back from my Mom's) and the last little piece of grass carpet that used to cover all the porche.  He is next on my list...

Je croyais que la couleur serait beaucoup plus foncée (note: ne pas hésiter à choisir une couleur plus foncée pour l'extérieure). Peu importe, je suis très heureuse que ce soit fini et pour moins de 100$.  J'ai acheté un nouveau petit tapis qui va très bien avec la chaise orange (que j'ai rapporté de chez ma mère) et le dernier petit bout the tapis-pelouse qui autrefois recouvrait tout le porche de notre maison. Il est le prochain sur ma liste...

Waiting for me, Elles m'attendaient

When we arrived from our vacations these original Panton chairs (from 70) where on the sidewalk, waiting for me. I thought it was a wonderful welcome home gift from the Gods of Design (in fact my neighbors got rid of them because they are moving).  But I'm not sure I will be able to keep them.  They are kind of big and they have cracks. Any suggestions how to fix them?


De retour de nos vacances, ces originales chaises Panton (des années 70) m'attendaient sur le trottoir.  J'ai pensé qu'elles étaient un merveilleux cadeau de bienvenue des Dieux du design (en fait mes voisins s'en sont débarrasser parce qu'ils déménagent).  Mais je ne sais pas si je vais pouvoir les garder. Elles sont plutôt imposantes et elles sont fendues.  Avez-vous des suggestions pour les réparer?

Ed Emberley's Make a World

In the cottage we rented in Maine, I found the amazing book : Make a world. So simple and inspiring.  I first learned about Ed Emberley on Amy's Sweet sweet life blog. Now I'm hooked I want all his books. Go check out his website full of fun free activities.

J'ai trouvé le livre Make a World d'Ed emberley dans le chalet que nous avons loué dans le Maine.  Tellement simple et inspirant.  C'est sur le blog Sweet sweet life d'Emmy que j'ai entendu parlé d'Ed Emmerley la première fois. Maintenant je suis une vraie fan, je veux tous ses livres.  Allez jeter un coup d'oeil à son site internet rempli d'activités amusantes et gratuites.

Maine 2011

We're back. We spend a week in a small cottage in Maine. A week of almost nothing, of time with the family, of reading, of taking pictures, of being elsewhere... 

Nous sommes de retour. Nous avons passé une semaine dans un petit chalet dans le Maine. Une semaine de presque rien, à passer du temps avec la famille, à lire, à prendre des photos, à être ailleurs...
